Some things are not meant to be and yet they still exit. Gepetto thinks so too. The old carver has already experienced a lot, but a piece of wood talks to him truly is a first. Until now! So why not carve a little boy out of it? Pinocchio, he calls him, and is happy not to have to be alone anymore from now on. But soon it becomes clear that the wooden boy has a mind of his own, is neither good nor polite, but full of curiosity and adventure. And so it's not surprising that Pinocchio doesn't stay with his father for long. With a drive for action, he moves into the big wide world, inspired by one wish: "I want to be a real boy!” But that's not as easy as Pinocchio might have thought.

In 1881 the Italian poet Carlo Collodi wrote "The Adventures of Pinocchio" (first published in German in 1905), one of the greatest classics in children literature. In the version of the renowned theatre producer Tatjana Rese, it now appears on stage as an innovative piece of puppet theatre.

Press: "(...) The basic principle of Matthias Thieme's staging is convincing: instead of a series of lectures, Pinocchio, who has come into the world free of morality, gets time to recognize and evaluate the consequences of his deeds himself. Stephan Fiedler convincingly mimics Gepetto, who unconditionally stands by his wooden son, thereby giving him the chance to mature. (...) Overall, an easily understandable and sometimes magical flow of scenes has been created, which depicts the world of the young audience next to great adventures (...). LVZ, 25 September

Press: "At first glance, Dirk Baum has nothing boyish about his full beard. But it quickly becomes clear that he can breathe credible life into Pinocchio with his hands. Together with Stephan Fiedler, the two produced an unbeatable father-son duo. The TDJW relied on simple but effective set design and equipment. The stage resembles a small arena. In the middle there is a wooden box, which is constantly transformed into a new place by simple changes". Mephisto 97.6, 25 October 2017
